Pet Dental X-Rays and CBCT Scans
Intraoral dental radiography is essential for a complete dental examination. 30% of dogs and 40% of cats have pathology that only dental x-rays can diagnose. Of those cases that have diagnosed pathology, approximately 50% of dogs and cats have additional pathology that requires treatment.
At Your Pet Dentist, we have CBCT (cone beam CT), which is used on all of our patients. The CBCT is used to identify definitive margins for oral cancer surgery as well as to aid in the diagnostics of TMJ pathology. CBCT is also extremely useful in identifying early endodontic lesions that otherwise could not be seen by conventional dental radiography.
CBCT is cutting edge technology that allows for early and faster diagnosis of periodontal disease and endodontic disease. It can also be utilized to “identify definitive margins for oral cancer surgery as well as to aid in the diagnostics of TMJ pathology” It is imperative for any traumatic injuries as well.
